The prime minister, Abdelilah Benkirane, announced his last call to the two parties in the former coalition, the liberal National Rally of Independents (RNI) and the nationalist Popular Movement (MP), in a statement to the press following a meeting of his party's leadership.

While the other ally, the leftist Party of Progress and Socialism, joined the leading Islamist Justice and Development Party even before the Oct. 7 election, the RNI and MP insist that the Constitutional Union Party and the Socialist Union of Popular Forces Party should also be included in the government.

Benkirane said if he does not receive any positive answer, he will schedule King Mohammed VI upon his arrival to the country after an African tour to inform him of the process of forming the government.

Five months after the parliamentary elections in Morocco, the re-appointed Islamist prime minister is still struggling to form a new government and a call for a fresh election seems inevitable. Enditem
